With over 150 events presented annually, the Department of Music offers something for every music lover. The department boasts 26 unique performing ensembles, each with a quarterly concert calendar. Chamber music, large ensembles, opera, contemporary groups, world music, and jazz ensembles make up the department’s rich performance calendar, along with lectures, master classes, and presentations from the ethnomusicology, musicology, theory, and composition programs. Concert Series
Quarterly large ensemble and chamber ensemble events featuring the UCSB Middle East Ensemble, Lumina Choir, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Players, Gospel Choir, Ensemble for Contemporary Music, Jazz Ensemble, and more.
World Music Series
Co-presented by the UCSB MultiCultural Center and the Ethnomusicology Program in the Department of Music, the World Music Series features FREE performances by some of the best world music artists in the Santa Barbara area.
Corwin Chair Series
The Corwin Chair presents a series of engaging concerts and lectures each quarter, with performances and topics ranging from live experimental/improvisatory electronic music to the conversion of DNA sequences into sound.
Ethnomusicology Forum
Lectures from leading ethnomusicologists from around the globe, as well as the new ABD Graduate Student Series, featuring the research and work of doctoral candidates in Ethnomusicology at UC Santa Barbara.
Music History and Theory Forum
Discover the research and work of today's leading musicologists and music theorists, with topics ranging from Mexicanidad in Pixar's Coco to the impact of the works of Arnold Schoenberg.
Student Recital Series
Each academic year, the department presents over 40 degree recitals, featuring performances by our talented undergraduate and graduate students from our Performance and Composition areas. These events are free and open to the public.
