Chet Stussy is a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research focuses on the history of musical instruments and recording technology, with specific interest on the status of the phonograph and related musical and scientific paraphernalia in American homes during the machine age (c. 1880 to 1930). Additional areas of interest include the history of Western music theory from the medieval era to the twentieth century. Chet has presented his research at national and international conferences, including those of the American Musical Instrument Society and The Galpin Society. Chet received his B.A. in Music from Westmont College and his M.A. in Music from UCSB.
Chet is a member of the American Musicological Society, American Musical Instrument Society, Antique Phonograph Society, and The Galpin Society. He is also an enthusiastic amateur recorder player.
